A Ten-Point Guide to Reaching Non-Joiner NIPFs in the Eastern U.S.
Jan 9, 2002
In 2001 the Institute conducted a research project to better understand
drivers of forest fragmentation and conversion from non-industrial
private forestland (NIPF) owners in the eastern hardwood forests of the
US.
In particular, we wished to focus on "non-joiner" NIPFs -- those
forestland owners outside of the traditional information loop.
Non-joiner NIPFs
- do not belong to forest industry or woodlot owner associations;
- only periodically rely on technical assistance advisory services;
- manage their own forestlands.
This guide is intended to help "impact groups" (groups who influence
NIPF decisions, including state coordinators, professional foresters,
SAF chairs, and smart growth groups) to effectively reach out to
non-joiner NIPFs in their regions. Download pdf .
